Menopause Symptom Questionnaire

Read the symptom and tick the box which most matches your symptoms.
Then score yourself and add up the total score at the bottom.

The higher score, the more likely your symptoms will be affecting your life, work, relationships and enjoyment.

Menopause myth buster

MYTH: HRT is dangerous
FACT: HRT will protect your bones, heart and may help protect you against dementia.

MYTH: Once I'm through menopause I'll be fine
FACT: Whilst the symptoms of menopause will eventually settle, you will never regain those pre menopause hormone levels and this low level of hormones is linked to a loss of bone strength, poorer heart disease outcomes and even some forms of cancer. Most of use are living for many years after menopause and wish for those years to be active and healthy.

HRT will make me put on weight
FACT: Changing hormone levels around menopause mean we store fat in around our middles (think apple shape rather than pear shape). There is no evidence to suggest HRT causes more weight gain. This is where diet and movement become a really important part of managing midlife.

MYTH: I'll have to have a blood test to diagnose perimenopause
FACT: If you are having symptoms and you are over 45, its safe to say your symptoms will be caused by your hormones. We may do blood tests to rule out other causes of your symptoms but not to check your hormone levels.

MYTH: HRT causes cancer
FACT: If you only need oestrogen alone HRT, you will actually have a lower risk of breast cancer. If you need to take progesterone as well (because you still have your womb) then there is a small increase in breast cancer after 5 years of combined HRT. Risk needs to be viewed in perspective because the risk of breast cancer is actually less than that from being overweight and can be reduced with regular exercise.

How to translate The Menopause Charity website

It is so important for women to be able to access good quality resources about menopause in a language which can be understood.

The Menopause Charity have worked with Google Translate to have their WHOLE website translated into loads of different languages in an effort to reduce the ethnicity gap in menopause care by giving women information in their mother tongue.
